So far I am pleasantly surprised by all of these light-weight drawings.

"Sasso,Carta,Forbici (Rock,Paper,Scissors)"

Mixed media on found wood with found objects from Texas, New York City, and Italy.
approximately 30" w x 11" h x 2" d

“Sasso, Carta, Forbici (Rock, Paper, Scissors)”

addresses the Scientific Law of Conservation, that matter can neither

be created nor destroyed, and also gives a nod to the spiritual idea of

reincarnation and rebirth through that same principle. The classic game

where one opponent can always best the next is repeated in nature and in

human history: the roots of trees from which paper is derived can crack the

mightiest mountains. Human hands forge swords of metal and rock mined from those

mountains, and swords have shredded declarations of political or

religious liberty throughout the ages. Like the tiny seeds from which the trees

sprout, the seeds of political, philosophical and religious ideals carry on and

so do we. I treasure it and hold onto it much too long. I gave Emily a big journal and had her scribble in it before she could even talk. This drawing (water-color marker on old computer paper) is still pinned to my studio wall. Emily drew a picture of her Dad as a skate-boarding bird. And he's hot! Or maybe skate-boarding was hot. Or, more likely, it was hot outside and they were on the floor drawing instead of playing on the swing set outdoors with the cat and rabbit and dog running around. We owned no video games so they were destined to grow up with a cruel mom who made them draw and read and sculpt things out of foil and twigs.

"mine becomes yours"

This was a restaurant scribble by Will from long ago, maybe on a cup or a napkin. My objective was also to incorporate found materials everyday, to be inspired to look at things differently. Indeed, every drawing is stamped with a found object... an Italian office stamp that doesn't even go past the year 2000, so I had to write in the last digit "7" on these drawings.

Prized Possessions

Two of my favorite paintings are these paint-by-number copies of "Pinkie" (Thomas Lawrence,1700's and "Blue Boy" by Gainsborough from around 1770). They hang side by side in the Huntington museum in California. They are among the first paintings I was introduced to in art class back in 1960's elementary school. Yes, they even taught us art history then in public school, though it was mostly with small color print reproductions of famous paintings. So these are especially beautiful, kitschy, sentimental to me. Oil on pressed board, 18" x 22" framed size. I bought these paint by number paintings at a flea market with my Dad circa 1975. Best part, they only cost 50 cents each. What a deal!

A belated graduation gift for Will from Aunt Susie.
